
Josephat Kilonzo
Josephat Kilonzo is a lecturer and Director of Strathmore Institute for Advanced Studies in International Criminal Justice at Strathmore Law School (SIASIC). He is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya. He holds an LLM in Human Rights and Democratisation in Africa (HRDA) from the Centre for Human Rights, University of Pretoria, South Africa. He is currently awaiting his doctoral graduation at University of Pretoria. His LLD research focuses on Rights-Based Approach to Disarmament, Demobilisation, and Reintegration within the Context of Countering Violent Extremism in Africa.
Kilonzo has a keen interest in peace and security, international human rights law, the law of armed conflict, international criminal justice, and African regional integration. In May 2023, he was appointed a Global Visiting Associate Professor of Law, at Notre Dame Law School, Indiana, United States of America for the period between 30 October 2023 and 20 November 2023.
Kilonzo has been a recipient of the following awards:
Nelson Mandela Prize 2017 – Best Academic Performance in the 2017 LLM in Human Rights and Democratisation class, University of Pretoria.
